YOGA CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Kripalu Yoga

Based on the loving and compassionate teachings of Swami Kripalu, classes typically begin with observing the breath as the focal point of the practice and will include warm ups to synchronize breath with movement, creative posture and breath sequences to lengthen, strengthen and balance the body with time for unguided exploration, and will conclude with a period of relaxation.

Classes are gentle (slower pacing, prenatal appropriate, and focusing on Level 1 type postures and fundamental breath techniques), moderate (more varied pacing and focusing on Level 1/2 type postures and more breath techniques), or vigorous (more varied pacing and focusing on Level 2 type postures with more advanced breath techniques).

Hatha Yoga

Based on styles from the Krishnamacharya lineage, classes will begin with establishing a rhythm of breath and will concentrate on creating a solid foundation with precise alignment, specific movement and actions that gradually increase in difficulty to assure safety, and will conclude with a period of relaxtion.

Restorative

This is a gentle, therapeutic style that uses props to support the body for deep surrendering into the poses.  Postures are held for many minutes to  promote conscious relaxation.

MEDITATION CLASS DESCRIPTION

Meditation is currently offered on Sundays for 30 minutes and is appropriate for all students who are interested in quieting the mind to increase awareness and appreciation of the present moment.  Seated meditation will often be the foundation, but a variety of techniques can be employed from class to class including guided meditation, walking meditation, mantra (repetition of meaningful sounds or words) meditation, mindful journaling, and metta practice (repetition of loving and kind wishes for others).

WORKSHOPS

Workshops are currently offered on select Sundays for 1.5-2 hours and allow participants an opportunity to spend more time on the chosen topic or practice.  Please call for a schedule of upcoming workshops including Partner Yoga, Prenatal, Men’s Only, Meditation, and Yoga Fundamentals.  Unless otherwise stated, advanced registration is not required but often advised to ensure we prepare adequate materials for participants.
